It was announced jointly by the Greens, the Minister for Environment and Water, the shadow minister and SA-Best at the Goolwa wharf on 30 March 2019. All parties present indicated their support for the model and for the trust.

For many involved in that process, this is an exciting moment. I think one of the clearest things to come through the select committee hearings and from those submissions was the magnitude of what the trust will be able to achieve and contribute for and towards the community of the Coorong and Lower Lakes. It was incredibly heartening to see the outpouring of community support and the eagerness of a wide range of stakeholders to see the trust established.

On a wet and blustery morning last Saturday, a significant crowd gathered to see off the Dire Straits Tinny Tour from the Goolwa Wharf.

The River Lakes and Coorong Action Group, alongside the Conservation Council of SA and The Wilderness Society assembled a group of politicians and community leaders of all persuasions to call for urgent action to save the internationally significant Coorong.

About 20 community leaders gathered for an emotional discussion about the topic last Wednesday night.
